Master of Science Program in Forensic Science
What is this program about?
The program focuses on integrating knowledge from multiple disciplines, including chemistry, biology, physics, toxicology, psychology, and law. It applies scientific principles and techniques to obtain and analyze evidence that can be used in the justice system, particularly in investigation, examination, analysis, and expert testimony. Students will receive hands-on training alongside academic learning, ensuring they can effectively apply their knowledge in real-world forensic and legal contexts.
Program Highlights
This program is jointly offered in collaboration with the Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and Faculty of Engineering. It aims to equip students with both theoretical and practical knowledge, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of forensic sciences. The curriculum emphasizes the application of academic knowledge to research and innovation development, fostering the creation of new scientific advancements. Additionally, students will learn to apply their expertise in solving criminal cases and contributing to the nation's sustainable development effectively.
Study Plans
The program offers 3 study plans:
- Plan 1 (Only Thesis): Year 2 - Focus on thesis work.
- Plan 2 (Coursework & Thesis): Year 1 - Coursework, Year 2 - Thesis work.
- Plan 3 (Coursework & IS - Independent Study): Year 1 - Coursework, Year 2 - Independent Study (IS).
The program duration is 2 years, with a maximum study period of 5 years.
Tuition Fees
25,000 THB per semester, totaling 100,000 THB for the entire program.
Admission Requirements
Plan 1 (Academic Track):
- Admission follows Chiang Mai University’s guidelines for each academic year.
- Eligibility: Must have completed a Bachelor’s degree in physical sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, physics), medical sciences (e.g., medical technology, pharmacy), or applied sciences.
- For applicants with work experience in forensic science, a Bachelor’s degree in any field with a solid scientific foundation at the high school level is required, along with a minimum GPA of 2.50 or at least 3 years of work experience in a relevant forensic field, with a recommendation letter from the supervisor or approval from the program’s administrative committee.
- If the student lacks sufficient scientific background, they may need to take additional courses as recommended by the administrative committee.
Plan 2 (Academic Track):
- Admission follows Chiang Mai University’s guidelines for each academic year.
- Eligibility: Must have completed a Bachelor’s degree in physical sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, physics), medical sciences (e.g., medical technology, pharmacy), or applied sciences.
- A GPA of at least 2.50 or at least 2 years of work experience in a forensic science-related field.
- If the student lacks sufficient scientific background, they may need to take additional courses as recommended by the administrative committee.
Plan 3 (Professional Track):
- Admission follows Chiang Mai University’s guidelines for each academic year.
- Eligibility: Must have completed a Bachelor’s degree in any field with a scientific background, as determined by the program’s administrative committee.
- A GPA of at least 2.50 or at least 2 years of work experience in a forensic science-related field.
- Further qualifications may be determined at the discretion of the program’s administrative committee.
